Imagine walking into a room made entirely of crystal, and decked out with crystals everywhere. How radiant and beautiful it would be! Of course, a crystal-constructed home is not a reality (we’re stuck with lumber and the like) but we can fill our home with attractive crystals to create a similar vibe. Crystals come from the earth and as such are a less conventional type of natural decor. Unlike other more common types of natural decor, they can jazz up a space with sparkle and pops of colour. They add a whole new palate of ‘earth tones’. If you love crystals and want to decorate your home with them, let’s explore crystals for each room of the house.
Crystals are not only stunning but are associated with specific healing properties as well. These properties are not commonly believed as general knowledge as they are not based on scientific facts. It’s unlikely that a major funding entity would support the scope of research necessary to collect confirmed data that would be accepted by the scientific community. Many eastern healing practices fall under the same category (acupuncture, Reiki, etc.) and that is why they are not covered by medical insurance. Like such practices, the metaphysical properties of crystals have been documented for thousands of years and continue to exist in practice among many practitioners today. Regardless of whether you believe in the power of crystals, you can certainly enjoy their mesmerizing appearance in your home! Let’s begin the tour.

Front Door and Entryway
Black tourmaline
Black tourmaline is a black stone that is most touted for its protective properties. It protects us from external stressors and relieves tension. Imagine an energetic boundary between you and others that prevents you from picking up their frenetic vibes. Black tourmaline is also believed to help us sleep better, strengthen our immune system, and protect us from the negative effects of EMFs (electromagnetic fields). Place black tourmaline near exterior doors to protect your home from any negative energy that anyone could bring inside. Common placements include buried in the soil of a potted plant outside the front door, or on a shelf or windowsill just inside the front door.
People place black tourmalines in every corner of a home to create a protective shield against low vibrational energy. They may also place it in every corner of a room for extra protection. I have a small black tourmaline in each corner of our house and in each corner of my toddler’s room. And while I cannot guarantee that anything would be different if those stones were not there, my son’s room is the happiest room in the house where everybody wants to be! The plants in that room always do exceptionally well, too.
Living Room
Clear quartz
Clear quartz is a gorgeous stone that is also commonly used in many manufactured products. It is popular for meditation, protection, and general healing. This makes it a good fit for any area of the house, including the common spaces where people gather. Place it by a window to catch and reflect sunlight and to disperse energy. Clear quartz is also said to amplify energy and all other crystals, making it a great decor option that complements all crystals for each room. And, as it’s clear, it won’t clash with any colour scheme!
Selenite
Selenite is another beautiful clear crystal that enhances concentration, awareness, willpower, clarity, and inner peace. It’s said to raise your energy vibration which helps to calm nerves and combat fear, anger and anxiety. It is an appropriate stone to keep at the entryway and common living area because it clears stagnant, unhelpful energy. It also helps to protect against EMFs.
Lapis lazuli
Lapis lazuli is known for helping to create harmony and clear communication. It facilitates wisdom, understanding, self-awareness, and authentic expression. A dazzling cool blue, this stone is a gorgeous addition to any common area and is especially ideal to have around people who drain your energy.
Amethyst
Amethysts are an attractive option for protection, balancing energy, and for clearing away negative energy. You can benefit from placing an amethyst any place in the house as it’s one of the most popular crystals for each room. Complementing your living room with this stone can help to create a relaxing space. People also use amethysts for improving memory, intuition, motivation, relaxation, sleep, and contentment. Many place them next to the bed in the bedroom. If you live in a studio apartment, amethyst is a versatile crystal to grace the entire space!
Apophyllite
Apophyllite is another stunning clear crystal that is used to filter stale energy and stuck emotions. If you want to encourage positive energy to flow freely through your home, apophyllite is a good option to place in common areas that many people use.
Bedrooms
Black Tourmaline
As mentioned above, black tourmaline is a protective stone that is commonly placed nearby entrances but also any place you desire extra protection. Some people bury a small black tourmaline in the ground at each corner of their house outside. You can also add them to a decorative jar or vase kept anywhere in your home. I have a small black tourmaline inside an upside-down scallop shell in three corners of my bedroom (the fourth corner is a doorway). There are also four in my toddler’s room, either within a scallop shell or within a tiny mason jar filled with other shells or stones. They are situated on a windowsill, dresser, changing table and bookshelf. You could display larger pieces as focal points or add small ones to decorative glasses, trays or jars. You can’t go wrong; black tourmalines are appropriate crystals for each room of the house.
Rose quartz
Rose quartz is the stone of love. It is used to enhance all types of love, including unconditional love and compassion as well as self-love. It facilitates deep inner healing, self-trust, and self-confidence. Rose quartz emits what is considered to be a soft energy that soothes tensions, reduces stress and raises positive energy. For this reason, it is ideal for the bedroom since we want to avoid going to bed angry and want to instead cultivate empathy, forgiveness, peace, and pleasant dreams. If there is generally a lot of tension or emotional fireworks in your home, use rose quartz as surrounding decor anywhere to help heal and open hearts and to help facilitate trust and nurturing.
Selenite
While selenite is a great stone to use in common areas of the home for its energy-clearing properties, a selenite lamp is a stellar addition to the bedroom. Like a salt lamp, it creates a lovely glowing ambiance that facilitates that calming atmosphere we all want in our bedroom. A beautiful bedside staple, dreamy mood lighting and positive vibes are the recipe for a perfect evening wind-down!
Garnet
Garnet is considered the stone of health. It is said to clear energy blockages within your body, allowing you to claim all of your potential and to enhance health, passion, love, and pleasure. This is a grounding stone that is ideal for the bedroom where you begin and end your waking day. Like most stones, it comes in multiple colour variations, but it is commonly known for its dark red colour that January-born people recognize as their birth stone.
Black obsidian
Black obsidian is mainly used for grounding and protection, and it is said to absorb environmental pollution. It’s useful for the bedroom because it helps to calm a bad temper and to release anger, fear and resentment (not things you want to carry at all but especially not when trying to get to sleep).
Carnelian
Carnelian is considered a passion stone that stimulates creativity, passion and drive. It is therefore thought to be a good bedroom stone that can encourage sexual intimacy.
Children’s bedrooms
Celestite
Celestite is a beautiful clear-blue geode crystal that promotes inner peace, calm, clarity, and self-awareness. It’s used to facilitate clear communication and to help dysfunctional relationships by clearing anger and resentment so that we’re better able to communicate with grace. This is helpful around people or spaces experiencing overwhelm and for confronting fear with level-headed wisdom and inner strength. And while this certainly applies to shared spaces, it is especially useful for children’s rooms. Young children go through a tremendous amount of internal development in a short time span. Learning to process big emotions is a huge feat for little bodies lacking mature cognitive reasoning. Placing soothing celestite in our children’s bedrooms reminds us to be patient and compassionate as we communicate love to our children through their trying times. Celestite also inspires restful sleep and good dreams, another plus for children but also beneficial for adult bedrooms to unwind.
A few extras: blue lace agate, smoky quartz, lepidolite, and rose quartz
Blue lace agate is recommended for relieving stress, anxiety and tension. Place it on a nightstand or somewhere near the bed. The addition of smoky quartz stabilizes the energy in the room and soaks up overactive energy. Lepidolite, likewise, helps to relieve feelings of overwhelm with peaceful vibes. Of course, adults benefit from this as well. Rose quartz is also naturally a wonderful addition to a child’s bedroom since it promotes love and soothes tension.
Study/home Office
Black tourmaline
Black tourmaline is not only appropriate to place around entrances and corners of the home or bedroom for protection against negative energy but it’s considered to also block negative energy coming from social media. So it makes sense to have it nearby where you keep a computer or any work station where you are most engaged in electronics. It’s important to have a reminder to stay grounded in positive vibes and to not get wrapped up in negative external influences.
Citrine
Citrine is a yellowish crystal that is energizing and symbolizes manifestation. It is associated with joy, confidence, hope, courage, endurance, personal power, creativity, and happiness. This makes it an appropriate stone to have on your desk while you work. Unlike most other crystals, citrine does not absorb negative energy but instead clears it.
Pyrite
Pyrite is great for a home office because it is considered the stone of wealth and abundance. It blocks negative energy and stimulates ideas, opportunities, inspiration, courage, and confidence. It grows naturally in perfect squares, so it’s an especially handsome decor option if you favor straight edges and geometric patterns. Consider this crystal for your desk to encourage productivity and creativity.
A few extras: tiger’s eye, shungite, and smoky quartz
Tiger’s eye is a protective stone for focused and rational thinking, clarity, and a realistic vision. These are all important traits for any job well done! Shungite is another protective stone. It is arguably considered the most powerful stone to protect against EMFs, which are rampant in modern life and especially in any area of the house with many electronics such as a home office area, media center, router, or audiovisual equipment. It’s recommended to place shungite on your desk and near electronics chargers to neutralize and purify EMFs. Smoky quartz is also said to block EMFs, making it another appropriate addition to the home office.
Kitchen and Dining Room
Carnelian and citrine
Carnelian debuts again in the kitchen because it facilitates confidence, creativity and motivation. These traits can help us stay motivated to cook nourishing food in the kitchen, week after week, year after year! Personally, I’m not one for putting decorations in the kitchen as I like to keep every inch cleared as workspace. It’s a lot easier to clean that way, too. But many people have lovely kitchens that are nicely decorated and if you like to decorate yours, too, then consider carnelian as a fiery addition. Citrine is also appropriate for the kitchen since it promotes joy and releases negativity, fear and anger. We want everything we cook and eat to carry happy intentions!
Clear quartz
Clear quartz is an ideal stone for gathering spaces as mentioned above and that includes the dining area. It can make a gorgeous centerpiece for a dining room table, and is a great alternative to fresh cut flowers in a vase (you could even use both in an arrangement). Because clear quartz fosters clarity, focus and manifestation, it’s a good dining room decor option for inspiring positive and invigorating conversation.
How to Choose Which Crystals for Each Room
If you feel overwhelmed by the many types of crystals and just want one easy option, go with clear quartz. Quartz is one of the most abundant minerals in the earth’s crust. And as clear quartz matches anything and is an all-around great crystal, you can’t go wrong with it. If you want to focus on healing properties when considering crystals for each room, consider any that are associated with helping whatever struggles you experience. You have options because all crystals are beneficial to some extent and multiple types benefit similar issues, but there may be one particular type that captures you. If you want crystals solely as beautiful decor for your home, choose based on their colour and structure and how they complement other colours and textures in each room. The same type of crystal usually forms in multiple colours, but may be most prevalent in one colour.
As with all things, surround your home with whatever brings you joy. If you see a crystal and just think it’s exquisite, consider it an excellent option for your home. Better to have one statement crystal that makes you happy whenever you see it than to spend the same amount of money on multiple crystals that don’t spark your interest. If you don’t want to outfit crystals for each room, one crystal is still a stellar choice! Choose your favourite for the best spot in your house to elevate the space both in how it looks and feels.
